HST, Legalities and online menu.
Good questions. First the HST matter. The dispensary is a registered company. Part of that registration included getting a tax number. In order to get a tax number you must contact Revenue Canada. As a matter of process I was asked what it was we sold. I, of course, told them we sold medicinal marijuana through our dispensary. When I explained that Health Canada was charging HST and I wanted to ensure that we were acting lawfully I was put on hold while they sought advice. When he returned I was told that they in fact do collect HST on med mj and based on the information I had suppled would issue a tax number to us.
This brings me to the next question...legalities. Compassion clubs and dispensaries are neither legal or illegal. Sounds odd I know but that really is the truth. Recent court decisions have recognized the necessity of compassionate access through dispensers. The courts have found the MMAR unconstitutional at every level of court decisions, here and in the other provinces as well. The courts maintain that our actions, based upon high levels of transparency, are NOT a criminal code violation, rather it is a regulatory matter between dispenses and Health Canada. As a dispenser I am authorized through HC to supply two people and this is where the courts have taken exception. If it s lawful for me to serve a few why not many. If there is anything I may be guilty of it's simply a "quota" issue not a criminal code offence. Look to the BCCLA submission for more legal and historic details. http://www.bccla.org/pressreleases/11Health_Canada_MMAR_Consultations.pdf
Lastly, the online menu. Yes we have considered doing this but not wanting to openly display our wares we decided against it...discretion at all costs. If you need more time for your appointment please ask when you call. The idea behind having our members make appointments was to ensure privacy as well as to allow for the time that each member might need.

Getting the Care I need
Hi guys!
It is fantastic that we can have suppliers of medical cannabis thank you for all the work that you have done so far. I would like to see the update to the town meeting, I am very sorry I missed it. I have a story that includes me being denied medical help, then obtaining medical help, then being denied by three physicians medical help. And none of them knew of my choice in cannabis for pain management I had not got that far with the medical issues before they decided not to treatment all based on the first doctors comments about me, she called me a liar and I called her on it and reported her to the college of physicians because I thought it was unfair of her not to treat me. So I am a rare BC'er that not only had her medical number revoked for more than 12 years, and now I am being refused medical attention, with a bleeding ulcer, with a serious blood condition, a bleeder. But that does not seem to be important enough for the doctors to treat me. On top it all I have degenerative disc disease which will eventually put me in a wheel chair. I smoke cannabis for pain relieve in my back if I did not I would not be walk very well. And so I can not get legal until a doctor see me and helps me with the paper work. And now this with the dispensary and the police raid. This is absolutely ridiculous, I can not live my live on pain killers and I will not. But now the Canadian
Government has force my hand to the criminal element I have no choice in this. I need help with this situation. Any doctor out there willing to help me please notify me asap....for this not only effects my entire life it all so effects those around me. This government needs to keep its nose out of my conscience behaviour.

Menu
Any chance of getting a menu posted online? I always feel rushed in the office and would like more time to browse and learn about different products.

HST
Just wondering what grower charges HST??? In order to pay a legal tax wouldn't the dispensary need to be legal???

The source of product
It would be nice to know where your product comes from. Is your product local?? Do you grow it in house? Do you only purchase from licensed growers? How do you ensure the product is of medical quality?

Congrats!
Hi, congratulations on the new expanded Hempz! The dispensary is excellent. Now that you have a larger area will you be carrying any creams? I bought Arthrighteous cream from the Vancouver dispensary. Excellent for patients like me with psoraisis. Love the store! Kat is very nice and Desiree is fabulous. Thanks again,
Kat

The first week since launching this site has been very full. As more people become aware of the MMD the need for paperwork has increased. Would be nice for here to be common sign-up system for all the dispensarys. Would surely aid the med. user. I am very happy with the beginnings of the Langley Dispensary. By weeks end ought to have all the forms made out and printed. I wish to thank everyone who works behind the scene on this project.

Warm Thank you!
Today I was pleased and personally quite touched to be presented the very first of the official MMD membership cards to be issued, it being numbered #001! Thanks Randy!
Although I have my Health Canada card, the wallet-sized laminated MMD card provides further documentation that I am indeed a bona-fide medical user. This should be a help with many potential MMD members who may be concerned about establishing their medical user status to the authorities, especially during the time waiting for Health Canada to process applications, or if delayed trying to find a doctor who understands its true medical value.
I congratulate Randy for his considerable efforts, personal sacrifice and dedication in establishing a Medical Dispensary on this side of the river.
I also very much appreciate the MMD policy of providing affordable, quality organic medicine to those in need. I have not been disappointed.
I heartily encourage one and all medical users to join the MMD and support its goal of quality service to our community.

Day-to-day stuff
I will continue to update the site with lots of content. If you look on the links page you will now see the Health Canada website. This site has the downloadable medical forms.
There is also a link for the physician release form. This form might help your doctor in her/his decision making. I've also added a link to legal and political info on medical marijuana.
As far as the day-to-day part, I will do my best to post news on the progress of the dispensary.

Content Ideas
In terms of information regarding medical marijuana, it would be fantastic to have a general overview on how to go about getting a license (i.e. where one can get medical forms and release forms for medical practitioners, what symptoms and ailments qualify for medical marijuana use, etc.), clarification on the different types of licenses, and maybe FAQ's and the answers to them.
On a more personal note, I'd love to see your day-to-day stuff; what it's like to be the lead trailbrazer in bringing medical marijuana to Langley, and what it entails - the opposition, the support, and the adventures!
